Karos Online, review

And so I decided to try Karos Online CB. Well, my first thought was... 'Oh god, no. Not another one of those gender locked'. At this moment, 3 classes are available, and 4 more to come. Elf-like Seroine female archer-type Bowmistress, human male two-handed sword user Blader, and dark elf-like male dual-wield daggers Rogue are the 3 classes to choose from. The other unavailable characters seem to be female spear user, male dwarf with big hand-cannon, female with sword and shield, and a female with a staff. So, umm... please forget what I said about gender-locked. This is gender & race locked.

So I proceeded to create a Blader, picked the best hairstyle and face style out of 3 options each, and red hair color out of 8, and gave him a name.

And then I logged into the game. The default graphic option, whatever it was, was quite nice actually. Characters looked nice, and trees seemed detailed. I lowered some options just a bit anyway because I want nice and smooth FPS.

The character movement worked fine with WSAD and point and click. However, left mouse button and right mouse button seemed to be the opposite of each other. That's it if you are used to turning your char with right mouse, and turning camera with left mouse.

Oh, you can jump with spacebar too. Tab to target a monster, use number buttons for skill activation, and click monsters to start auto-attacking. And for looting, click each drop to pick them up, or simply spam F key to loot items nearby. Battle animation controls both arms and legs, so you can't move around while attacking.

Both map and minimap showed you where the NPCs are, but they don't tell you which NPC has quests to do. (Though they are marked with <QUEST> it doesn't mean they have the quest for you at the moment).

After completing a quest or two of 'kill x of this' and 'collect y of that', I got to level 3 and thus 2 more skill points. For a Blader, I'd say the skills are... typical: skill to deal more damage, skill to charge and stun a target, skill to increase attack power but lower defense for a period of time, and so on. Higher skill level performs better...... Just a little, but better nonetheless. There also is this something call Fletta skills, which I don't have points to invest in yet. Fletta skills increase characters passive attributes, such as HP and MP Regeneration rate, Attack Speed, Attack Power, Magic Attack Power, and such.

Since each class uses different kind of weapon, it's obvious that if you pick up weapons of different classes from loot, they are of no use to you. The same goes for armor pieces. Torso, Legs, Gauntlets and Shoes all belong to a certain class only.

Then I paid a little visit to the town. There seemed to be some sort of traveling between cities stone, NPCs for Dungeons, and also Crafters. Crafting seems to be done via NPCs, so you don't level your crafting skills. Just hand the materials to the NPCs and hope you're lucky, because it says [Chance: Highest] at the combining screen. So it's safe to say some items are easier to make than some with lower chance. There's also Holy Creature Manager NPC, who would sell you a Shoulder Pad, which could be turned into a Wolf for mount! Yes, you can also 'craft' different kind of mounting wolf here if you bring the right materials.

I checked the Storage NPC and, to my surprise...this is great!, there are 3 options of storing items: Personal storage, guild storage, and account storage!

There seems to be 2 method of materials gathering, apart from monster loots, mining and fishing, seeing NPCs sell pickaxe and fishing rod.

Accept quests and returning them is kind of annoying, to be honest. You have to talk to the NPC, obviously. Click on the quest to accept or return, and move the mouse across the screen to click on a few buttons just to take a quest. Quest description is displayed only in a small portion of the bottom part of the screen, so you might need to click on the Next bottom a few times to read all of it, or just Click Last and Done if you don't want to read. Then you have to close the quest screen too, after taking/completing them. Every little thing adds up, good or bad. And then I found out, I have had enough of this game... To me, this is yet another plain and boring MMORPG.

RATING

Graphics - 7 / 10 Sound - 6 / 10 Gameplay - 5 / 10 Features - 5 / 10

• Graphic does look good

•Tthough it's over-shadowed by lack of customization

• Just so-so. Not good, or bad. • Boring, plain, and I have no idea why I should play this instead of many others out there to choose from.  • Boring, plain, and I have no idea why I should play this instead of many others out there to choose from.
